Abstract
This monograph describes the results of the excavations carried out by the Iraq State Organization of Antiquities and Heritage during the years 1946-1949. This work offers a preliminary and simplified picture of the prehistory and history of Eridu, Iraq, a tell site at Abu Shahrain, during the 'Ubaid period. The author provides a detailed study of the evolution of religious architecture in Mesopotamia as represented at Eridu; an analysis of burials and grave goods at a 'Ubaid cemetery; typical buildings of the period; and a well-illustrated examination of 'Ubaid pottery types.
