Non-religious residential settlement patterning in the late Early Dynastic of the Diyala region

By: Henrickson, Elizabeth F..

Abstract
Henrickson examines the house data ('non-religious settlement units') from excavations at Khafajah and Asmar. Individual houses were examined to determine where domestic activities took place. One surprising conclusion is that some central rooms may not have been courtyards and instead were roofed. Henrickson also looked for indications of family type and wealth differences. She also discusses settlement patterning within the sites (wealthy neighborhoods verses poorer ones). The last half of this document consists of tables of the room categories in each house (front, center, back) and the artifacts that were found in each house.
