Dumond compares 60 localities having assemblages which have been classified as having at least one of the following: Arctic Small Tool tradition, Norton tradition with pottery, or Norton tradition without pottery. He concludes that there is a substantial change in the material culture between Arctic Small Tool tradition and Norton tradition (which shows Norton tradition really is a new tradition and not just a continuation of the Arctic Small Tool tradition) and that Norton tradition people became more sedentary with permanent houses along the coast. Dumond also compares Norton tradition assemblages with collections from Asia and notes the similarities.
