Emerson and McElrath examine the characteristics of the Terminal Archaic Prairie Lake phase in the American Bottom in Illinois with a discussion of the large-scale excavations at two sites: Dryoff-Levin (11-S-462/463) and Missouri Pacific #2 (11-S-46). The excavations were part of the FAI-270 investigations. They discuss the paleo-ecology of the area and their findings. Many multipurpose pit features were found; including feature clusters that are associated with specific family groups. Hafted bifaces or diagnostic points are covered. Also discussed are settlement patterns, the settlement system, and the subsistence system.
