archaic hunters and gatherers in the american midwestNew York • Published In 1983 • Pages: 11-39

By: Reid, Kenneth C..

Abstract
Reid summarizes the formal, temporal, and spatial dimensions on the Nebo Hill complex or phase. He discusses settlement variability, subsistence, and ceramics. He discusses Nebo Hill as it is found in Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri and then discusses in greater detail, his excavations at the type site, 23CL11. 'The Nebo Hill phase represents a hunting and gathering, potter-equipped population…. No evidence for Nebo Hill cultigens has yet been recovered, but tree-felling tools, hoe bits, and site locational regularities may point to supplemental gardening at the large upland settlements….'
