By: Brown, James Allison.
Abstract
Brown reviews the papers presented at the Early Woodland Conference at Kampsville. They are found in eHRAF documents nos. 11-39. Most papers conclude the Early Woodland is a time period and not a stage of cultural development. He describes the various articles on the development and spread of early ceramics and the role this new technology played. Pottery is not seen as a technological revolution and was not a response to any one thing. Brown reviews what the various authors had to say on Early Woodland subsistence and writes about settlement patterns in the Ohio Valley.
