Chemical study of the material from several horizons of the Ventana Cave profile

stratigraphy and archaeology of Ventana Cave, Arizona, by Emil W. Haury; collaborators: Kirk Bryan [and othersTucsonPublished In 1950 • Pages: 549-563

By: Buehrer, T. F. (Theophil Frederic), b. 1891.

AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
To understand more about the post-depositional processes that have occurred in the cave a chemical study of the material from the strata was conducted. Buehrer presents the results as acid-insoluble, acid-soluble, water-soluble, and miscellaneous fractions. He also looked at total organic carbon. Buehrer is able to point out that the rock from Ventana cave has a 'high relative stability against the forces of weathering. They represent the framework of rock or mineral which is not easily broken down into simpler forms under the prevailing arid conditions and not translocated to any extent by percolating water.' (page 553).
