Abstract
Waters describes the field work involved in conducting the geoarchaeological investigations for the Picacho study area. 'The purpose of this chapter is to 1) establish the regional stratigraphic framework of site areas and the microstratigraphy at archaeological sites; 2) define the geological processes responsible for site formation; 3) reconstruct site depositional paleoenvironments and the spatial context of the site in the regional paleoenvironmental setting; and 4) define and evaluate geological and biological processes responsible for the modification and destruction of archaeological deposits and contexts before and after burial.'
