Abstract
Since archaeologists have been conducting more research in northern Mexico they have come to realize the Hohokam don't look so out of place among the other archaeological cultures of the southwest. McGuire and Villalpando discuss some of the similarities between the archaeological cultures of northern Mexico and the Hohokam. They point out the similarities in the arts, architecture, agriculture, and some religious beliefs. It was the Preclassic Hohokam that were influenced by Mesoamerican cultures. During the Classic period elite goods were items found throughout the US southwest such as polychrome pottery and turquoise-on-shell mosaics.
