Mesa Top Site: an early Mogollon village in southeastern Arizona, [by] Mary Jane Berman (280) • Published In 1978 • Pages: 103-124

By: Preslar, Tony M..

Abstract
Preslar analyzed the ceramics found at the Mesa Top site. Found were Alma Plain and San Francisco Red. Alma Plain was used for cooking, but no burned vessel bases were found for San Francisco Red. Preslar compares the Mesa Top ceramics with those from other early Mogollon sites in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico. 'The information recovered from the Mesa Top Site possibly indicates an earlier ceramic horizon lacking polished red wares. … Unfortunately, the data derived from the Mesa Top Site are not sufficient to definitely conclude that a pre-red ware horizon existed.'
