Abstract
Results of botanical surveys of the eastern Valley of Oaxaca undertaken between 1966-1976 are summarized for the purpose of comparison to archaeological foodstuffs from Guilá Naquitz Cave in order to better reconstruct procurement strategies. Flannery considers both seasonal and year-to-year variability in plant productivity for the major botanical zones, emphasizing caloric potential. There are some comments on probable diet and eating habits in light of the archaeological data. (Portions of the text concerned largely with organization and assessment of the data for comparative purposes are indexed for ORGANIZATION AND ANALYSIS OF RESULTS OF RESEARCH [128].)
