The Peten Postclassic: perspectives from the Central Peten Lakes

late lowland maya civilization : classic to postclassicAlbuquerque • Published In 1986 • Pages: 251-299

By: Rice, Prudence M..

Abstract
Rice examines Postclassic ceramics in the Petén to show that people continued to occupy the lake basins and the people living there were not isolated from the rest of the Maya. Ceramic production was regionalized and there is evidence of both regional and inter-regional trade in ceramics, with most of the long distance trade with the highlands to the south. She also believes some of the Yucatan polychromes were inspired by Petén ceramics.
