Mesolithic forest hunters in Ukrainian Polessye

By: Zalizniak, L. L. (Leonid L´vovich).

Abstract
Zaliznyak describes a number of Mesolithic cultures in the Polessye region (largely the Ukraine and adjacent areas of Russia and Poland) as defined by typological-statistical differences between various sites’ microlithic collections. Ethnographic analogy is employed to understand the main aspects of Mesolithic society, based on common indicators of cultural economy. Maps, drawings, and other details are provided for sites and artifacts, along with reconstructions of climate and environmental changes, migrations, and group dynamics. This is a rather uneven translation of the original, with some misspellings and confusing word choices (e.g. "monument" where "site" might better convey the intent).
