Abstract
This is an overview of the Formative Period, including both the Initial Period and Early Horizon, for both the coast and highlands of Peru; only information about the coast during the Early Horizon ("Middle Formative" herein) is relevant to this collection. The author describes ceramics, textiles, metal work, burial practices, cranial deformation and trepanation, settlement patterns, fortifications, and ceremonial structures, highlighting regional variations and interactions.
