Abstract
The authors review the results of a systematic survey of the Chifeng area, attempting to reconstruct the social, political, cultural, and economic patterns for the region in order to understand societal changes in areas with more risk and scarcity. Only the Xinglongwa and Zhaobaogou subtraditions are within the Yellow River Early Neolithic Tradition.
