Abstract
Using data gathered from eleven years of systematic surface survey in southeastern Shandong, the authors describe changes in settlement patterns and settlement hierarchy, identify polities, and note some differences in ceramics over time, from the Early Neolithic Beixin phase to the Han dynasty. The Longshan phase is emphasized, including integration with Longshan culture to the west.
