Abstract
An earthwork or wall-and-ditch system to the north of Benin City is at least 16.5 miles long and encloses an area of about 17 square miles. The author speculates it may have enclosed a village, while admitting that the relationship of the earthworks to other features in the surrounding landscape or to the walls of Benin City remain unclear, and the date of construction is uncertain (the date range given is for archaeological deposits at Benin City).
