Abstract
Columnata is one of the oldest, continuous excavations in Algeria. The archeologist Cadenat began to dig there in 1937. He identified four prehistoric traditions: Ibéromaurusian (AKA Oranian or Mouillian), Columnatian, Upper Capsian, and Neolithic. The author Brahimi carried out two excavations in 1969 and 1971 and in this report analyzes the tool industry. Also, he reexamines the stratigraphy and reevaluates Cadenat's work. He discusses the problems of Ibéromaurusian stratigraphy in general.
