The north Syrian Late Epipaleolithic: the earliest occupation at Tell Abu Hureyra in the context of the Levantine Late Epipaleolithic

By: Olszewski, Deborah.

Abstract
Olszewski examined various stone tool collections from Tell Abu Hureyra and other sites to determine whether sites in northern Syria were similar enough to be designated as Natufian or whether they should be given another name. The majority of this work describes the stone tools and her analysis of them. Olszewski writes a historical summary of the previous research into the Natufian and reviews the Kebaran, Geometric Kebaran, Mushabian, and Harifian traditions. She also briefly describes the Epipaleolithic developments in the Zagros foothills, areas south of the Caspian Sea, and from sites in Turkey. As she uses uncalibrated radiocarbon dates (and designates them as b.c.) to date the various Epipaleolithic traditions, her dates appear to be later than other authors in the M080 file although they aren't.
