AbstractBrief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
Moore describes and analyzes the non-chipped stone artifacts from Abu Hureyra 1, most of the artifacts were used in procuring and processing food. He points out the sources of the raw materials used. Many of the grinding dishes have red ochre on their surface, so they would have been used to process this coloring as well as for food processing. Two unusual types of artifacts are the stone balls, which appear to be weights, and the bitumen smearer, which may have applied bitumen to baskets to make them waterproof. Also found were notched pebble weights used as fishing net weights. Finally, Moore provides a culture summary for Abu Hureyra 1 and compares this site with contemporary ones.
