expand_more Description
The Halafian tradition occurred from 7700 BP to 7000 BP. The people lived in self-sufficient villages supported by dry farming with sheep, goat, cattle, and pig herding. They produced a distinctive painted pottery using geometric and representational designs. There is limited evidence of a social hierarchy that may have included chiefs with distinctive residences. Clay sealings made from stamp seals suggest control of access to the commodities so sealed.
