By: Munchaev, R. M. (Rauf Magometovich).
Abstract
Munchaev summarizes the work of the Institute of Archaeology, Academy of Sciences, USSR in northern Iraq from 1969 to 1981. They excavated at several sites that provided information on the culture history of the area from Prepottery Neolithic to Ubaid. He summarizes their findings, discusses their successes, and points out that 'the study of many of the key problems pertaining to the archaeology, ancient history, and culture of Mesopotamia and the Near East is now impossible without taking into account the results of investigations by the Soviet expedition to Iraq...'
