Model and actualization: the kings of Akkad in the historical tradition
akkad : the first world empire : structure, ideology, traditions • 5 • Published In 1993 • Pages: 41-67
By: Liverani, Mario.
Abstract
In the historical reconstruction of the Akkad dynasty, the difference has always been clear between the direct, contemporary sources (mainly royal inscriptions, on original monuments or in careful copies), and those belonging to later historiographical traditions. The scond class of sources clearly offer greataer problems of reliability if comapred with the first one (p. 41). In this article Liverani presents a critical evaluation of this latter class of source material as it relates to the historical reconstruction of the Akkad dynasty.
