Abstract
In this volume (the second half of the fourth volume of four volumes, eHRAF documents nos. 11-18) Karl-Georg Beck and Stefan Klug analyze the human physical remains from the cemeteries and settlement of Maadi and Wadi Digla. Only 279 skeletal finds were studied due to losses, preservation problems, and documentation mix-ups during curation, etc. The condition of the skeletal finds is presented along with a map for each grave showing which bones have been preserved. Karl-Georg Beck and Stefan Klug present mortality tables for Maadi and Wadi Digla. Approximate age and gender of the skeletal remains is given along with descriptions of dentition and pathological diseases. 'Morphologically, both groups belong to a relatively robust type.…Differences between the Maadi and Wadi Digla series in regard to metric features could not be statistically proven. The results of the supraregional population comparison pointed to similarities with the Palestinian area [Gaza, Israel, the West Bank] in regard to several metric variables …though a clear relationship with Egyptian comparison groups was demonstratable.' (page 136). Photographs of some of the graves and their artifacts is included, along with some photos of the diseases evident on the bones.
