The unification of the land

Early Egypt : the rise of civilisation in the Nile ValleyLondon • Published In 1993 • Pages: 48-62

By: Spencer, A. Jeffrey.

Abstract
Spencer describes some of the processes that occurred in unifying the northern and southern kingdoms. The unification took place over several hundred years in two stages; the spread of the material culture first during the Late Predynastic Period, followed by the establishment of a single political government. Spencer describes the merging of the ceramics, the changing funerary customs, several ceremonial palettes and whether they describe the final unification of the south over the north or not (such as that found on the Narmer palette), and the inscriptions that mention various kings.
