By: Edwards, I. E. S. (Iorwerth Eiddon Stephen).

Abstract
Edwards provides an overview of Early Dynastic Egypt. He discusses the kings before the unification and the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt, the kings of the first two dynasties, the founding of Memphis, and the cemeteries at Abydos and Saqqara. Egyptian government is described with its divine kings, and some of the king's officials are also listed. Egypt's relations with other cultures (the Levant, Lybia, Sumer or lower Mesopotamia, and Nubia) are explored with Edwards examining trade, some of the early wars, cultural contact and how the other cultures may have influenced Egypt. Religion and mortuary practices are covered along with architecture (mostly as it relates to mastabas) and sculpture.
