The early dynasties
Early Egypt : the rise of civilisation in the Nile Valley • London • Published In 1993 • Pages: 63-97
By: Spencer, A. Jeffrey.
Abstract
Spencer discusses the first two dynasties. He explains that '…the transition from the Late Predynatic Period into the First Dynasty now appears to have been a far less dramatic event than was previously supposed. Rather than a sudden conquest … a picture emerges of the steady percolation of the authority of the Upper Egyptian Predynastic rulers to extend over the whole country.' (page 63). Spencer discusses the early kings and queen of the first two dynasties and the texts where they are mentioned. The graves of both poor and rich are described along with the royal tombs and cenotaphs.
