Abstract
Chlodnicki writes about a survey in the eastern Delta and excavations at Tell el-Farkha. More than 30 sites from the 4th-3rd millennia were recorded during the survey. Four occupation phases have been found at the excavated site. The pottery from the site is discussed. Some of the more recent research in the Delta points to 'a good amount of evidence about the presence of Naqada II … cultural elements in the Delta area … pointing to a Gerzean expansion towards and 'colonization' of that general area.… [A] consolidation phase can be seen to occur at the very end of Naqada II and during Naqada III.…The picture … [compels] us to to review the traditional theory of a dynastic conquest of the Delta, but probably not a too much hurried removal of conflictuality as an acting force in the unification processes.'
