Abstract
Ellis re-examines one of Petrie's cemeteries. 'The aim of this paper is to statistically analyze the data from the protodynastic 'valley' cemetery of Kafr Tarkhan, to assess the possible nature and degree of any social differences reflected in contemporaneous mortuary practices.' (page 241). Children show the most inequality. Men had the fewest grave artifacts so status may have been expressed some other way not expressable in the archaeological record of a cemetery.
