By: Aldred, Cyril.
Abstract
Aldred writes an overview of Egypt from Paleolithic times up through the Old Kingdom. He writes of the material culture and of the small bit of history that can be learned from the Egyptian texts. Aldred discusses the architecture of Dynasties III-VI (mostly the pyramids and mastabas) and the art and furniture found in them. Sculpture from these same dynasties is also discussed. The emphasis is on royalty and the elite rather than the lower classes.
