An artifactual comparison of finds of Norton and related cultures

By: Larsen, Helge Eyvin.

Abstract
Larsen compares nine artifact assemblages from sites located along the Bering Sea to the Alaskan Penninsula (Point Hope, Cape Krusenstern, Kugzruk Island, Cape Nome, Nunivak Island, Platinum, Chagvan Bay, Nanvak Bay, and Naknek Drainage). The author considers these assemblages to belong to the Norton culture based on the presence of nine cultural elements which do not occur in Ipiutak cultural assemblages. Not all the sites compared contain all nine elements. The author attributes this partly to the site's location along the Alaskan coast. The culture elements that occur at each site are briefly discussed.
