early and middle archaic research in virginia : a synthesis (22) • Published In 1990 • Pages: 133-153

By: Hantman, Jeffrey L..

Abstract
Hantman reviews the data on the Early and Middle Archaic throughout North America to point out some of the similarities and differences. Specifically Hantman looks at climate change, settlement patterns and strategies, regional social organization (such as territory size, and how local projectile point syles and lithic raw material untilization and exchange may indicate an increasing cultural regionalization), and the origins of agriculture. Only the Middle Archaic cultures of the eastern United States have been indexed for Outline of Material Culture (OCM) categories.
