Geoarchaeology and the Mid-Holocene landscape history of the greater Southeast

Abstract
Schuldenrein writes an overview of the geoarchaeology that has been done in the southeast of the United States. 'Early Holocene climates and hydrographic changes … account for a prehistoric record that is spotty and uneven. Evidence suggests that the majority of early archaeological sites … have either been severely eroded or remain deeply buried …. Conversely, by the end of the mid-Holocene largely modern environments had been established and … upper Late Archaic sites abound almost everywhere across North America. … A systematic understanding of the prehistoric geography of the mid-Holocene is the key to explaining broad diachronic changes in paleoecology.'
