Vertebrate faunal analysis for the Walling mound site (Ma°50): 1986 excavations

Middle Woodland culture and Copena in the Tennessee Valley, by Vernon James Knight, Jr[University] • Published In 1990 • Pages: 129-144

By: Worth, John.

Abstract
Worth analyzed the vertebrate faunal remains from the same two proveniences as Scarry (document 26): the premound midden and the Mound Stage 2 Activity Surface. He describes the methods used to analyze the remains. He found a low diversity of fauna with the deer meat represented by 'only the most choice cuts of meat from fully adult deer…' (page 143) and evidence the mound summit was kept free of debris and perhaps animals.
