The fossil vertebrates
stratigraphy and archaeology of Ventana Cave, Arizona, by Emil W. Haury; collaborators: Kirk Bryan [and others • Tucson • Published In 1950 • Pages: 126-148
By: Colbert, Edwin H. (Edwin Harris).
Abstract
Colbert analyzed the fossil vertebrate mammal bones from the cave. More recent analyses of the deposits from Ventana Cave indicated that the bones of the extinct fauna may have been from an underlying Pleistocene deposit that did not have any artifacts. Therefore, the data pertaining to extinct mammals was not marked for Outline of Cultural Materials codes. The fauna indicate the climate was moister and either savannah or plains with persistent streams when the first two strata were laid down: the conglomerate and the volcanic debris.
