By: Rudy, Sara Sue.
Abstract
Rudy examined one hundred and forty-eight identifiable pieces of basketry from Danger Cave from levels DII-DV. Fifteen manufacturing techniques were observed and were used to type the basketry pieces. Only the basketry from levels DII and DIII were marked for OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) codes. Rudy concludes that twining is the oldest basketry techniques with coiling appearing later, the direction of the stitch slant is a deliberately chosen technique and its use in series 1 may be a regional characteristic, and Salix exigua is the commonest material used.
