Abstract
This is a detailed chemical analysis of the incrustation on pottery vessels and palettes from Snaketown, Arizona. These crusts are not uniform physically, differing in density, hardness, and color. They are, however, all similar in composition, consisting principally of lead silicate. The ratio of lead oxide to silica varies considerably. In many instances the lead oxide is in rather a larger excess that is normally present in lead silicate, More or less other mineral matter, as iron oxide, lime, etc., is always present (p. 282).
