Abstract
According to the authors the Early Pithouse period in southwestern New Mexico has not been adequately recognized in the literature. Based on work within the study area and surrounding areas LeBlanc and Whalen present in this study a summary of early pithouse diagnostic traits, as well as data on settlement patterns, population dynamics, subsistence, communal and residential structures, and concluding with a section on suggestions for future research in the area.
