A summary of small site architecture in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico

Small site architecture of Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, by Peter J. McKenna, Marcia L. TruellSanta Fe, N.M. • Published In 1986 • Pages: 115-502

By: Truell, Marcia L..

Abstract
Truell summarizes the major architectural characteristics of the excavated small house sites within Chaco Canyon. She intended the study to synthesize the changes and development in the construction of these sites through time. Truell describes the findings from the excavations at these sites and points out that there is less of a distinction and more of a continuum in the differences between small house and great house structures. She describes construction and materials used, form, pithouses, above ground structures such as ramadas, and how the architecture changed over time from around 1600-700 BP (AD 400-1300).
