Ritual and nonritual activities in Mesa Verde region pit structures

architecture of social integration in prehistoric pueblos (1) • Published In 1989 • Pages: 73-87

By: Varien, Mark, Lightfoot, Ricky R..

Abstract
Varien and Lightfoot use the data from the Duckfoot site, a site that was fully excavated, to analyze the distribution of artifacts and features across the site. '[They] have tried to demonstrate some of the variation in pit structure assemblages and suggest ways that the variation might be patterned. [They show] the distribution of domestic activities, present the evidence for shared use, and suggest that ritual activity was greater in pit structures than in other areas of the site.' (page 85).
