Abstract
Weigand examines five modern Indian groups (Mexicaneros, Tequales, Coras, Huicholes, and Tepecanos) and one historic Indian group (Caxcanes) of the highland barranca zone of Jalisco, Nayarit, and Zacatecas to discuss their origins and explore the evolution of their cultures. He uses ethnographic, ethnohistoric, and archaeological data in his pursuit of this objective. Because of this the reader is advised to read with caution as it is not always immediately clear what time period is being discussed and a single paragraph may discuss several different time periods that are not within the west Mexico Postclassic time period.
