By: MacNeish, Richard S., García Cook, Angel.

Abstract
This is a detailed study of the excavations by Richard S MacNeish and Angel Garcia Cook at the El Riego cave site between April 24 and May 29, 1961. The site includes ten occupation levels ranging in time from 7500 BC to 1550 AD. Although the text describes each level in detail, it is only occupation level 3, layer 4, that has been indexed with OCM (Outline of Cultural Materials) codes relevant to the Highland Mesoamerican Archaic time period. These codes include information on chronology, stratification, artifacts and their manufacture, and the ways of life of the inhabitants.
