Temper sands in sherds from Niuatoputapu excavations in Tonga: [appendix B]

Niuatoputapu: the prehistory of a Polynesian chiefdom, by Patrick Vinton Kirch (5) • Published In 1988 • Pages: 274-277

By: Dickinson, W. R..

Abstract
Dickinson thin sectioned sherds from Niutoputapu and compared them with sherds from different islands in Tonga. The sherds were examined to determine grain types and tempers. All samples "fall within the Tongan spectrum of calcareous, ferromagneisan, and pumiceous or lithic tempers…" meaning all sherds were locally made.
