By: Patterson, Thomas C. (Thomas Carl).

Abstract
Patterson uses ceramics and other forms of art to follow the spread of the Chavín influence first in the area around Lima and then from the Ica Valley in the south to the Piura-Chira area on the far north coast. The Chavín influence can be seen from the late Initial Period through to the middle to late Early Horizon. Patterson compares the spread of the Chavín cult to the spread of early Christianity around the Mediterranean.
