Abstract
This article attempts to explain the wide-spread diffusion of Huari-Tiahuanaco iconography and architectural styles during the Middle Horizon period in the Central Andes, and to understand the political realtionship that motivated such profound cultural changes. Isbell notes that Huari-Tiahuanaco iconographic diffusion can be linked to the orthogonal cellular architectural horizon and the the administrative control that it reveals (p. 21).
