Excavations at Tiahuanaco

The American museum of natural historyXXXIV (III) • Published In 1934 • Pages: 359-494

By: Bennett, Wendell Clark.

Abstract
Bennett describes the excavations, straitigraphy, and artifacts found at the site of Tiahuanaco. The purpose of the excavations was to gather enough ceramics to be able to type and date them. Therefore, much of this document is a description of the ceramic shapes and designs. Bennett also types and attempts to date the stone sculptures he found. Included in this analysis are other sculptures now stored in various museums. The concluding pages discuss Tiahuanaco style and influence throughout the Andes and coastal Peru as it was known in 1934.
