Abstract
This is a study of some of the major archaeological sites in the lower Tiwanaku Valley on the Bolivian side of the Titicaca Basin. Chapters 2-5 of this work are concerned with general issues, such as geography of the region, history, and theoretical considerations, while chapters 6-15 focus specifically on the data. In this latter group, the first part of each chapter presents a brief description of the ceramics of the cultural period, followed by an analysis of the settlement pattern, which, in turn, provides the foundation for a discussion of the settlement system (p. 3). The archaeological data for preceramic, formative and Tiwanaku i-v periods have not been indexed in this document since they represent a time frame pre-dating the temporal focus of the file (1100 A.D. - early 1600s). These sections represent pages 84-271 of the text.
