Abstract
The authors write about the transition from the Pleistocene to the early Holocene (ca 11,500-8000 BP) along the Pacific Coast, mainly from the Gulf of Alaska to San Diego, California. They discuss the paleoenvironment (especially sea levels), and a few sites from a database of over fifty. The intensity of the field work has been variable, so there is need for caution in interpreting the regional patterns. Also, there have been only a handful of isolated Clovis-like points found in California, Oregon, and Washington.
