Abstract
The authors review the evidence for pre-Clovis sites in the Americas for an understanding of the culture of the first peoples in the New World. They discuss the importance of accurate dating, the genetic data that supports an early arrival, and the difficult but essential search for (and ability to recognize) older sites.
