Abstract
From a preliminary analysis of the botanic material obtained from Chogha Mish, Woosley suggests two interesting though tentative conclusions about the prehistoric agriculture practiced at the site: (1)the examination of carbonized seeds from Chogha Mish does not support the significance of cereals as early domesticates during the earliest occupations levels at the site, and (2)that for several thousand years of agriculture results seem to indicated an emphasis on legume crops, such as Pisum, Lens, and Vicia, over cereals. Only with the coming of a fully established agricultural economy during Protoliterate times do cereals become a significant component of the subsistence exploitation pattern. This suggests that at Chogha Mish the earliest domestic crops of economic importance were the legumes, not the cereals (p. 316).
